Tianjin Nangang home to?3 strategic oil reserves

The Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone, a dedicated heavy-chemical industrial base, has become home to three large strategic oil reserves with a total capacity of 7.4 million cubic meters.

The reserves include one state oil reserve and two commercial reserves of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group).

Tianjin Nangang was chosen to be one of the four spots for China's second phase of strategic oil reserves in 2009. The Nangang state strategic reserve received total investment capital of 3.5 billion yuan and has a designed capacity of 3.2 million cubic meters.

CNPC and Sinopec also chose to set up their strategic oil reserves in Nangang Industrial Zone, with capacities of 3.2 million and 1 million cubic meters, respectively. CNPC invested about 3 billion yuan in the 32 units of 100,000-cubic-meter oil tanks and is expected to build a 22-kilometer oil pipeline that can carry 20 million tons of crude oil per year. Sinopec Group's 10 units of 100,000-cubic-meter oil tanks have completed construction by the beginning of this year.
