Taiwanese law firms will be allowed to establish offices on the mainland to provide legal services to enterprises doing business across the Straits, a mainland official said Wednesday.

Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said the rules to allow Taiwanese law firms to set up offices in Fuzhou, capital city of east China's Fujian Province, and Xiamen, another city in Fujian, will be released soon.

Both the mainland cities face Taiwan, and due to similar origins and culture, many Taiwan enterprises have operations in the two cities.

The rules will specify conditions, business scope and supervision of the Taiwanese law firms, Fan said.

Fan said mainland offices will help Taiwanese law firms expand their businesses, adding that the measure will help boost cross-Straits economic cooperation.
