Manuel Segovia still speaks Ayapaneco to his wife and son who understand him but speak only a few words themselves. |

The language of Ayapaneco is at risk of extinction, but the last two people fluent in the language refuse to talk to each other, the Guardian reports.
Manuel Segovia, 75, and Isidro Velazquez, 69, live 500 meters apart in the village of Ayapa in the tropical lowlands of the southern state of Tabasco in Mexico. It is not clear whether there is a long-buried argument behind their mutual avoidance, but people who know them say they have never really enjoyed each other's company.
There are 6,000 languages in the world, and around half are expected to disappear over the next century.
